ENEA Tech and Biomedical, an Italian public investment fund focused on strategic technologies and biomedical innovation, has invested in Cellply, a Bologna-based deep-tech company developing technologies for advanced cell analysis and the quality control of cell and gene therapies.
The €7.15 million investment round will support Cellply’s international expansion and the further development of its VivaCyte® platform, as well as new automated technologies designed to improve quality control in cell and gene therapy manufacturing.
Making advanced therapies faster and more reliable
Cellply develops technologies that enable researchers and biopharmaceutical companies to assess how cells function and respond to treatments. Its solutions are designed to address a key challenge in the development and manufacturing of advanced therapies, including personalised cell therapies and next-generation immunotherapies.
The company’s VivaCyte® platform provides automated functional analysis of living cells, helping researchers generate more consistent and actionable data during the development and quality-control processes.
As cell and gene therapies move from research laboratories towards larger-scale clinical and commercial applications, reliable and scalable quality-control technologies are becoming increasingly important. Cellply aims to contribute to this transition by combining automation, advanced cell analysis and data-driven approaches.
Supporting Italy’s life sciences ecosystem
The investment by ENEA Tech and Biomedical is also significant in the context of Italy’s growing life sciences and deep-tech ecosystem.
ENEA Tech and Biomedical is an Italian investment fund established to support the development and growth of innovative technologies with strategic importance for the country, including biotechnology, healthcare and biomedical technologies.
Its investment in Cellply brings additional capital and institutional backing to a Bologna-based company operating at the intersection of biotechnology, engineering and advanced healthcare.
The funding will enable Cellply to expand internationally while continuing to develop technologies aimed at making the development and quality control of cell and gene therapies more automated, scalable and efficient.
