Winet

Smart Specialisation Strategy
Leadership in Enabling and Industrial Technologies

Winet designs and realizes wireless sensor networks (WSN), mainly for environmental monitoring, industrial and landslides.
The idea arose  by the two partners, both graduates specialists in Systems Engineering and Information Technology of ICT, and it is the provision of a comprehensive service monitor for customer-specific needs, composed by  a network of wireless sensors and subsequent analysis of data collected through monitoring.
Founded in 2011 as a software development company of commercial WSN platforms, Winet has gained experience both in terms of hardware and software, bridging several gaps in the proposed solutions on the market.

The wireless sensor networks is an important technology with low cost for distributed monitoring of physical quantities, able to provide measures  characterized by high resolution both temporal and spatial.

They consist of a set of nodes, each equipped with one or more sensors, able to exchange data via radio, in accordance with well defined communication protocols. Poorly invasive, given the limited size of the devices, it allows  quick installation in contexts where complex network infrastructures are not feasible. This technology is consequently suitable to be used in various areas of application, allowing to improve or in some cases to replace the systems used up to date.

There are several application domains, as for instance the industrial field or the agricultural one.

The ability to monitor in real time landslides, rivers, storms or other landslides represents a strong advancement over current techniques based on surveys or manuals on the use of expensive radar systems. The use of wireless sensors networks allows to minimize the time  in risk areas, and to implement prevention interventions that help protect homes and infrastructure.

The link with the university is still very strong: the main topics of interest of the research are the optimization of energy savings, the study of routing algorithms, the study of estimation criteria and decision-making processes in special events, minimizing the presence of false alarm or lack of decisions.

The wireless sensor networks for monitoring (WSN) in several areas currently identified in the agricultural, environmental and industrial is composed by the following:

  • Hardware: Board for data acquisition and transmission developed, produced and tested; (pending certification).
  • Network Firmware: tested and working.
  • Management software: realized (optimization stage).
