BoneArmed was founded in 2023 in Bologna, operating in the orthopaedic biomedical sector. The startup produces and markets an implantable medical device for treating knee arthritis, applying a completely innovative approach from the perspectives of both cause of arthritic pain and the implanting of the device.
In the traditional prosthetic approach the knee joint is completely replaced, but this new device can drastically reduce the pain deriving from localized bone tissue disease.
Relative to the candidate target population for knee arthroplasty surgery and the health facilities delegated to carry out conventional prosthesis surgery, the proposed device is applicable to patients who do not want to undergo surgical operations and patients not suitable for operation due to the presence of co-morbidities that contraindicate surgery.
The surgical procedure can be carried out in day-hospital and so the service can also be offered by smaller health facilities, drastically reducing the associated costs.
