The state of art in cranioplasty (implanting sections of skull) is hampered by numerous issues: the high cost of operating theatres and implant prostheses (average total of €12,000), an extended learning curve for surgeons, aesthetic and functional imperfections, and non-repeatability in emergency cases.

ALGAE spa was founded in 2018 as an innovative start-up operating in the micro-algae and cyanobacteria (especially Spirulina) market. The company's operating base is on the Soliera plain, where a team of researchers have developed their own "tank-based photo bio-reactor (PBR)" technology, with micro-algae ecosystems recreated in each individual unit.

SEFFILINE was founded in 2018 with the aim of making autologous regenerative therapy accessible to everyone. For some years, autologous regenerative therapy using mesenchymal stem cells of adipose origin has been considered a state-of-art technology, and is supported by an enormous scientific literature. BoneArmed was founded in 2023 in Bologna, operating in the orthopaedic biomedical sector. The startup produces and markets an implantable medical device for treating knee arthritis, applying a completely innovative approach from the perspectives of both cause of arthritic pain and the implanting of the device.

Angiodroid is a startup that was founded in July 2013 by SparkBio and funded by the venture capital fund Zernike Meta Ventures and Emilia Romagna's Ingenium Fund.Angiodroid designs, manufactures and sells automatic injectors for the injection of carbon dioxide as a contrast material in angiography.The technology is patented in Italy and abroad to safeguard the uniqueness of the solutions offered to the market (injectors and materials).
