Meraky

Smart Specialisation Strategy
Leadership in Enabling and Industrial Technologies

Meraky proposes a circular economy model within the fashion and design sector, focusing on research and development of materials that have fulfilled their primary function and that are not normally used in the production of accessories.

The first “Made by Meraky” project is AROMA, a bag and accessories line absolutely outstanding in their class, created from interwoven coffee bags that would normally be destined for unsorted waste disposal. Woven strictly by hand, the coffee bags give rise to unique woven patterns that can never be identically repeated.

Since 2020 Meraky have been concentrating on the development of an alternative material to traditional animal skin, and with MOCHA SPLIT they have achieved their aim of presenting an entire collection made from an innovative material, very similar to leather but 100% natural and composed 80% of banana skins from food industry waste. The result is a product with a highly original design that combines ethics and aesthetics to satisfy the needs of mindful consumers.

In line with the values of social responsibility, ethical labour, and exploitation of resources, Meraky decided to adopt "made to order" sales strategy. This means that only what is necessary to satisfy the actual demand from customers will be produced, reducing waste to a minimum.
