The requirements of recent European standards and a demand from consumers for eco-sustainable goods has increased pressure on plastic processors to reduce the percentage of oil-based materials in their products. In response to this Gazza aims to produce fully biodegradable and compostable biopolymers.

Gazza's biopolymers are derived from two natural ingredients: tapioca starch and glycerol.

AgroMateriae was established after three years of research in the laboratories of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, where excellent experimental results led to submission of a patent application for WPL (2019). It was accredited as an innovative startup by the University of Modena, with the objective of ramping up the technology to an industrial scale.

The aim of the company is the development, production and marketing of innovative products and services with high technological content, for the treatment and exploitation of waste sludge and industrial or civil solid-liquid suspensions, agribusiness waste and by-products, with the aim of reducing the quantities consigned for disposal, as well as obtaining new products like biodegradable plastics (PHAs or polyhydroxyalkanoates) and other renewable chemical products.
