Nestart arose as a spin-off from Bordoni Bonfiglio srl, a structural metalwork company that forms and laser cuts metal components for various sectors. Each day, Bordoni's production generates waste sheet metal offcuts. Nestart was established to treat these leftovers not as waste but as a potential for transformation into prestige items. The materials are retrieved, requalified, and reused, taking on a second life in the form of decorative furniture (tables, chairs, bookshelves, lamps), room dividers, decorative panels, flooring, counters, gates, and all types of street furniture.
Every item produced by Nestart is by definition unique and non-replicable. This uniqueness is ensured by the mother company's use of nesting cut patterns, which change by rotation. Choosing Nestart therefore means supporting sustainable design and the circular economy, where ethics and aesthetics do not need to be separated.
Nestart operates through upcycling, establishing a process of improvement for materials normally defined as waste. Traditional recycling returns a material to its original nature—for example, steel can be melted down infinite times, but this comes with a high energy cost and CO₂ emissions. Upcycling, instead, requires creativity to reimagine the potential of an item by changing its intended use. Every ton of Nestart products represents a saving of 2.16 tons of CO₂.
Nestart’s philosophy contrasts sharply with the fast delivery culture in an age of disposable products. Nestart primarily serves B2C and B2B customers, the HoReCa sector, public administrations, and is also making inroads into international markets.
